When I have solar and battery storage do I still get a monthly bill from my utility (i.e. NV Energy)?
The short answer is yes, but your utility bill amount will vary based on your system and usage. When designing your system size, Sunrun determines your offset percentage, meaning what percentage of your current yearly energy needs are covered by solar panel production. It’s important to recognize that production or solar offset is not the same thing as financial offset. Just because your system is “100%” offset doesn’t mean you won’t have a utility bill.
In addition to a monthly grid connection fee to your utility, you will also likely pull from the grid at different times due to the seasonality of solar. For example, in the summer months your system will likely overproduce while in the winter months it may underproduce. This variance in solar panel production will lead to different utility bill costs at different times of the year.
